‘If I’d told the truth, it would have been fiction.’

Everyone loves Eva. Beautiful, bright, fun, generous – she’s perfect.

So when her body is found in a ditch in the local woods the only thing anyone wants to know is: Who could have done this?

It has to be Luke, her boyfriend. He has the motive, the means, the opportunity and he’s no stranger to the police.

Even thought the picture is incomplete, the pieces fit. But as time passes, stories change.

Who could have done this? You decide.

It Ends With You is clever and compulsive. It challenges preconceptions, makes you second-guess yourself with each chapter, and it holds an uncomfortable mirror up to the way societies and systems treat outsiders.

A Riveting Read!    4 stars

An enigmatic novel which begins with the discovery of a body and continues with the investigation during which we find out – from several points of view – what the back story is.

Eva comes from a wealthy family, is a popular teenager and is a high achiever at school, so when her body is found in the woods the shock is widespread throughout the community. As the investigation begins, her friends are questioned by the police – but are their replies honest or is there an agenda at play? Tasked with finding out is DI Jackson and, with a teenage daughter of his own who is a contemporary of the group of young adults who had Eva within their circle, he is under tremendous pressure from the powers that be to bring about a swift resolution to this case.

First thing that struck me about this book is that the 16, 17 and 18 year olds have more freedom and more cash to spend than any teenagers of my acquaintance, and it’s evident that they are far more skilled in spinning untruths than I’ve ever been! This is a real eye-opener to the life of wealth and privilege and how adept the recipients of such a lifestyle are at lying and covering their tracks. However, the truth will out and this is a riveting read which has no problem in holding the reader’s attention. There are questions arising from the very beginning, and answers peppered all the way through – but are they the right answers – the honest ones? There’s only one way to find out – read the book!

I enjoyed this one immensely. The writing pulled me into the story and kept me there, from the first page to the last. Without doubt, this is a thrilling read and one which I’ve pondered on ever since. The only thing which I wasn’t keen on was the ambiguous ending – I like my fiction firmly finished off and tied up with a big bow leaving no room for doubt. I may try to convince myself it was obvious what happened next – but was it or was it just wishful thinking on my part? I’m still happy to have read it though!

My thanks to publisher Little, Brown Book Group for my copy via NetGalley. This is my honest, original and unbiased review.
