Next in Line by Jeffrey Archer #BookReview #WilliamWarwick5 #HarperCollins #NetGalley #5*

London, 1988.

Royal fever sweeps the nation as Britain falls in love with the ‘people’s princess’.

Which means for Scotland Yard, the focus is on the elite Royalty Protection Command, and its commanding officer. Entrusted with protecting the most famous family on earth, they quite simply have to be the best. A weak link could spell disaster.

Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and his Scotland Yard squad are sent in to investigate the team. Maverick ex-undercover operative Ross Hogan is charged with a very sensitive – and unique – responsibility. But it soon becomes clear the problems in Royalty Protection are just the beginning. A renegade organization has the security of the country – and the Crown – in its sights.

The only question is which target is next in line…

Absolutely Superb!

Another cracking addition to this magnificent series!

As the public fall in love with Diana, the Royal Protection Command has never been more important; it falls to Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and his team to make sure they are up to the job. Working with an experienced undercover officer, they soon realise that they have more to worry about as there is an organisation with it’s sights set on the security of the country – and the crown.

I have been a huge fan of Jeffrey Archer’s books ever since first reading Kane and Abel many years ago; in fact, it may just be time to read it again! The character of William Warwick first appeared in his previous series, The Clifton Chronicles, as a character in a series of novels and, to my mind, it was a masterstroke to then move onto actually writing that very series. I often see this author being referred to as a ‘master story-teller’ and it is the perfect description. He has the ability to draw in his readers like no other; twists and turns keep the reader on their toes. The characters just come alive for me and each novel furthers the series while entertaining at the highest level. As always, an absolutely superb read which commands all five sparkling stars and my very highest recommendation!

My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is – as always – my honest, original and unbiased review.
