Adam Lapid survived the second world war; he was one of those rescued from Auschwitz. His dreams are haunted as his wife and children died there. Night terrors don’t stop him from working as a private investigator in Tel Aviv, where he is settled. When a woman approaches him to find her missing child, Adam thinks it is hopeless but doesn’t have the heart to tell her that without at least looking into things. What he finds is more than he bargained for, and puts his life in danger, but Adam isn’t a man who gives up.
I was recently asked to review another post-war series and I have to say it piqued my interest in this period. While this is the first in this series, I know that I’m going to continue reading – I really like Adam Lapid and his methods. This is a gripping – and heartbreaking – case; I could not have predicted where it was heading but it kept me glued to the pages all the way through. I imagine this is a fairly realistic portrayal of the period and those who survived, and it was with great satisfaction that I reached the end. Highly recommended and one I’m compelled to give all five glowing stars.

Jonathan Dunsky is the author of the Adam Lapid historical mysteries series. The Adam Lapid books are set primarily in the early days of the State of Israel and feature private investigator Adam Lapid, a Holocaust survivor and former Nazi hunter. The sixth novel, The Auschwitz Detective, is a prequel that takes place in Auschwitz-Birkenau in the summer of 1944.
Dunsky has also written a standalone crime thriller called The Payback Girl, in addition to publishing a number of short stories, in various genres.
