Well-Written, Puzzling Read!
Packed full of twists and turns – too full perhaps?
Grace Thomas, husband Cameron and their two children head off for a weekend break in a country cottage to give them some much needed family time. Grace has her suspicions that Cameron is having an affair so reacts badly when his assistant, Chantelle, turns up at their temporary home. Determined to get to the bottom of things, Grace begins to track what is happening and when, hoping to discover the why . . .
J. A. Andrews is an author new to me and, while I looked forward to this book, I’m not entirely sure the story is what I expected. The blurb makes it all sound very straightforward when, in reality, it is anything but. I was drawn in from the very beginning when Grace heads off on a cruise, despite us knowing that her husband will never get aboard. The rest of the details are revealed in retrospect and, yes, it is absolutely ram-jam full of both twists and turns. I think I kept up easily until about half way through then my brain had to kick up a gear. At one point, I think I lost my grip on reality and didn’t know whether I was coming or going and, in all honesty, by the time I reached the final page I was just relieved to get there. For me, the story twisted and turned just a bit too often and I lost interest before the conclusion, although I did struggle on to the bitter end. There is no doubt this is a well-written novel; the author is certainly a skilled writer and it shows. For me, 4*.
My thanks to Rachel Gilbey both for my copy and my spot on this tour; this is – as always – my honest, original and unbiased review.
