Eudora Honeysett is eighty five years old. She lives alone, has no relatives and no friends. Not wishing to end up needing care, she decides to grasp the mettle and enquires about ending her life in a Swiss clinic. Then ten year old Rosie turns up on her doorstep and suddenly Eudora’s life is neither so dull nor so lonely. So when the clinic follows up on her application, what will Eudora decide?

This is a very special novel; it sparkles all the way through. If anyone had told me that a novel involving the topic of death could be such a happy, uplifting read I’m not sure I would have believed it but this is just so breathtakingly good. The creation of the name Eudora Honeysett is utter perfection. This book is full of wonderful characters, each one beautifully developed. The story itself is so very different and isn’t one to be forgotten easily. An absolutely gorgeous tale which left me lost for words (not something that happens often as my family can confirm), and it’s certainly not one I’ll forget. I will read this again without a doubt; it left me on such a high and I want to capture that feeling again. Annie Lyons has excelled with her latest novel; I have enjoyed her previous works but this one is rather spectacular. An outstanding piece of writing which I cannot recommend highly enough; it completely earns each and every one of the five sparkling stars I’m delighted to give it.

Author Bio

Having realised early on that books are pretty much the best things in life, I have been lucky enough to spend my entire career working with them. My first job after leaving university was as a bookseller in a bookshop on Charing Cross Road, London and then I worked for eleven years in publishing. Following redundancy in 2009 I was thrown into the world of stay-at-home motherhood. Realising that my brain was starting to fester like an old potato in the bottom of the vegetable tray, I enrolled on a creative writing course and decided to try and write my first novel. It took me two years to finish it and another two to get my first publishing deal. In July 2013 Not Quite Perfect was published and I enjoyed a rather exciting summer as it reached number six  in the Kindle bestsellers.

I have since written five other novels. I love to write about characters with whom readers can make a real connection and about subjects we can all relate to – parenthood, love, families, grief, friendship, music, laughter. I want to carry readers along in a story which makes them laugh and shed the odd tear but which ultimately leaves them feeling uplifted and hopeful. These are the stories I love to read and so I write for myself and the thousands of readers just like me. It’s quite honestly the best job in the world.
