An excellent continuation of this heartwarming series, bringing things full circle.
Peggy and Able live in the country now with the twins, running a successful business but it doesn’t stop Peggy fretting about her two eldest even though they are now adults with children of their own. With the decision made to head back to the Lanes for Christmas, Peggy is looking forward to meeting up with all her friends again – letters just aren’t the same! Able is a quiet, contented husband and father, but not much escapes him – would moving back to London make life easier or not?
It’s wonderful to be back with this cast of characters again; Rosie Clarke’s excellent writing makes each one come alive and she has the period details spot on. With a little bit of upset, unhappiness and a huge dollop of love this is a marvellous read and one I have really enjoyed. Being reminded of all the residents in and around the lanes is most entertaining and it’s lovely to catch up with them all again. A delight to read and a series I recommend to all lovers of sagas set during, and just after, the second world war. For me, this is well worth 4.5*.
