Bea Hughes had put the past behind her.

Until an anonymous caller phoned to say they knew what she’d done. To make matters worse, Bea suspects someone else in the house was listening in on the line.

Fearful she’s been found out and desperate to keep her family together, Bea must identify and silence the person who stands in the way of her happiness.

Should she confess after all these years? Should she cover her tracks? And can she do it while keeping her high-profile marriage to a public figure out of the headlines?

Her Hidden Past is the second book in the Rosemary Run Series of domestic thrillers.

A Decent Read, Lacking Excitement!      stars 3

I’m not sure I would describe this as a thriller,  but it is a good read in it’s own way.

Bea Hughes receives an unexpected call one afternoon; the message scares her and to make matters worse, someone else lifted another extension phone and heard it too. But who? She thought what happened in the past was forgotten, but this is a clear sign that someone else knows what she did. So what happens now? And what about her family?

This is a decent tale, but not as exciting as I thought it was going to be. I would describe it as more of a family drama; for me it lacks the heart-pounding excitement which I expect from a thriller. However, if I hadn’t read the blurb I would have enjoyed it more for what it is – a well-written, easy tale of family life and how our past catches up with us. I particularly like that it was all brought together by the end of the book with no loose ends left dangling. However, I did find how things turned out to be just a little far fetched. I suspect the author aimed for a good ending and just took things a step too far to be readily believable. Perhaps, due to reading so many first class thrillers, my expectations are just a bit high? Either way, I wouldn’t discount reading this author’s work again although I don’t think I will follow this series. For me, this scores three stars.

I downloaded this as one of my Kindle First Reads choices, part of my Amazon Prime subscription; this is – as always – my honest, original and unbiased review.

Author Bio

Kelly Utt

Kelly Utt writes emotional, pulse-pounding fiction for readers who enjoy both suspense and sentimentality. She is dedicated to telling the kinds of meaningful and exciting stories she loves to read and watch. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and she studied graduate-level interactive media at Quinnipiac University.

As a kid, Kelly grew up with a dad who would read a book, ask her to read it, too, and then insist they discuss it together. Although her father passed away when she was a teenager, her passion for life’s big questions lives on. That passion is often reflected in Kelly’s novels, giving them a depth which leaves readers wanting more and thinking about her stories long after the last lines are read.

In her free time, Kelly enjoys travel, good books, and good food, as well as a variety of media including movies, TV, music, and social media. Kelly is also founder of a Nashville-area group called Nashville Indie Authors for independent authors who are serious about earning a living from their craft. She lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband Sam and their two teenage sons.
