Amelia Fitch has worked long and hard to have a successful advertising career, but her world seems to be falling apart and there’s nothing she can do about it. Constantly arguing with her husband, worrying about her kids when she’s working, worrying about her business when she’s with the kids .. welcome to the life of the working mother! What happened to her relationship with the man she fell in love with?
For anyone looking on, Ami and Lars have the perfect life; large house, two offspring – a boy and a girl – and both running successful businesses. However, Ami and Lars haven’t worked as a team for a long time, but when a major shock gives them a wake up call, things may be on the up – but is that enough? As we follow their struggle to do the very best for their children, we also get glimpses into the people they were when they met.
Yet again, I find myself in awe that this is a debut novel – it has a much assured touch of a far more experienced writer. As someone who has found herself divorced with young children, it’s no picnic and the only thing to focus on is putting their needs above your own. Along with this main part of the story, we also meet friends and colleagues of Ami’s, and there are plenty of lighter moments to make the reader grin and giggle. Such an enjoyable – and well thought out read – deserves high praise indeed. So true to life, and an excellent example that there is no right or wrong way to go about things; we all just do our very best and hope it’s enough. Definitely worth reading!

Meet the Author
Fiona Perrin was a journalist and copywriter before building a career as a sales and marketing director in industry. Having always written, she completed the Curtis Brown Creative Writing course before writing The Story After Us.
As a mother and stepmother to four teenagers while holding down a fairly full-on job, she wanted to write grown-up commercial fiction about messy, modern love and families – with all their heartbreak, humour and hope.
Fiona grew up in Cornwall, hung out for a long time in London and then Hertfordshire, and now writes as often as possible from her study overlooking the sea at the end of The Lizard peninsula.
She is currently writing her second novel for Aria.
